Blues Plate Special – 147 Years after the first “new” release…Here are this week’s new tunes!

Date:

On August 12th, 1877, Thomas Edison invented the phonograph and unleashed the potential of music artists to reach wide and varied audiences. Coupled together with the invention of radio by Marconi in 1894, new music began to flow into the homes of the masses worldwide. One hundred forty seven years after Edison’s first “new tune”, Blues Music Fan Radio uses an internet stream to literally reach people all over the planet with music and news about the contemporary blues. Here are some new contemporary blues singles you might want to give a listen (along with some thanks to Mr. Edison!):

Fantastic Negrito, Sting – Undefeated Eyes – Radio Edit

What a combination and just a great chill tune!

Steve Cropper & the Midnight Hour – Friendlytown

Steve Cropper is already American music royalty and now, in his eighties, continues to write and perform some badass contemporary music! And it doesn’t hurt to have Billy Gibbons as part of your band!

Joanne Shaw Taylor – Hold of My Heart

Joanne Shaw Taylor is one of the great voices and guitar players of a new generation of contemporary blues superstars. If you haven’t heard her before, this song is a great sample of her talent and that of violinist Sav Madigan.

Andy Wood, Joe Bonamassa – Moaning Lisa

Like B.B. King before him, Joe Bonamassa continues to contribute his name and talent to help get recognition for other music artists. This instrumental is simply a beautiful composition by two guitar maestros.

Sonny Gullage – Worried About the Young (ft. Christone “Kingfish” Ingram)

Two great contemporary blues artists collaborating on a socially observant song…oh yeah! Both are 25 years old. Sonny is set to release his debut album in a couple of weeks and Christone is arguably the most popular young artist of the contemporary blues. The future of the blues is in good hands!!

The Heavy Heavy – Feel

I got to see this British duo last year at the Telluride Blues and Brews Fest and they have a cool psychedelic blues sound reminiscent of the late 1960’s.
