It all started at Fox & Locke’s Open Mic Night in Leiper, Tennessee. Then, on October 2023, they released their first album, which was recorded at the venue while they did a live show. I started listening to them with their second release “Fork In The Road”, their first studio EP album, and I predict it won’t end there.
Aaron Sparling, started it all, being a young man whose dad was the road manager for Vern Gosdin, he would go with his dad and began to love the Memphis sound. However, he said it was The Beatles music that inspired him to branch out and try a rock/soul type of music. His vocals and music have evolved over time coming from a rich background of artist such as Sam and Dave, Tom Petty, Booker T and The MGs, and Otis Redding to name a few.
At age 6, Aaron was playing guitar, and later he was putting together basement bands. He met Scott Metko, while Scott was playing with David Ball. Aaron was 22 years old at the time, and asked the whole band to come to Nashville and be his band. Well, they thought he had guts to ask that, and never expected to hear from him again. Not believing it would really happen, they told him if they got to Nashville, they would be his band. And now, with the release of the EP “Forks In The Road”, their second album, we see it was truly meant to be.
The members of Hippies and Cowboys are Aaron Sparling – Lead Vocals & Rhythm Guitar, Scott Metko – Drums, Victor Arruda – Lead Guitar, Kevin Riley Corbo – Bass Guitar, and Connor Lafollotte – Keys. They rock the music and connect with their “Dreamers”, and bring a wonderful sound, much like the 70’s, back to the future. I hope you check it out soon!
